Want to time the releases of your lessons to keep your students engaged with a steady stream of content? Our drip fed content (or lesson locking) feature has you covered. If you also want a group of students to go through your course content in a "class" of sorts, you can do that too!

Option 1: Use the default course purchase date to unlock lessons

By default, when a student signs up for your course a purchase date is set for them (you don't have to do anything!)

All you have to do is navigate to each lesson to set how long you want until a lesson will unlock based on the course purchase date.

In each lesson you'll see a "Set Drip Schedule" button you can click, set the days after purchase, save, and you'll see the unlock schedule for that lesson.

NOTE: If you ever decide to remove the lock schedule on a lesson that will make the lesson immediately available to any students who have purchased your course.

Option 2: Set a Drip Start Date and your course lessons will unlock after that date

If you want your course lessons to be available a few months AFTER a student purchases your course, all you have to do is use our Drip Start Date feature.

  • Go into your course editor
  • Go to the Overview course page
  • Click the "Set Drip Schedule" button in the top nav bar
  • In Option 2 click the "Pick Date" button
  • Set the date, time, and you're off to the races!

NOTE: If you want to remove the Drip Start Date and reset it back to the default Purchase Date, navigate into the date picker and click the "Reset to purchase date" button.

Using the Drip Start Date feature will automatically lock ALL lessons in your course to unlock after the date you pick.

You'll notice in the sidebar of the course editor all of your existing lessons will now have a day counter and an unlock icon based on when they will unlock.

Option 2 continued: You can THEN set each lesson in your course to unlock AFTER your Drip Start Date

Just like Option 1, you can click into any lesson in your course and set the amount of days you want that individual lesson to unlock after the Drip Start Date.

You'll see the date in the pop-up window when you click the "Set Drip Schedule" button on each lesson...

Three IMPORTANT notes about Drip Start Date feature you should know...

#1 Adjusting start date for existing students: If you have a Drip Start Date set and a student signs up, you cannot adjust that student's start date. If you adjust the Drip Start Date in your course it will only affect students who sign up AFTER you've made any adjustments.

#2 Unlocking all lessons for a student: Let's say you set a Drip Start Date, a student signed up, then a month later you decided you didn't want that student to have a lesson unlock schedule any longer. All you'd need to do is go into your Customer Activity page, search the student's email, click their name to view their Customer Profile and click the "Unlock All Lessons" link on the corresponding course.

#3 What if you want a few lessons in your course to be immediately available? There's a simple little workaround should you want a few lessons in your course to be available right away. All you have to do is go into each lesson, click the "Set Drip Schedule" button, and enter a negative number of days. Example: If your Drip Start Date is 221 days in the future, on the lesson you want unlocked immediately you would enter -222  days in the Set Drip Schedule for that lesson.

Want to send your students automated emails based on your course's lesson unlock schedule?

Here’s an example of how to send emails to your customers using MailChimp’s Automation and Teachery’s Drip Schedule:

Step 1: Create a new list in your MailChimp account for your course students.

Step 2: Go to Automation in MailChimp and create a new Automation Workflow.

(Note: Automation is a paid feature in MailChimp, so if you’re on a free account, you’ll need to start paying for Automation)

Step 3: Create your Automation sequence by doing the following…

  • Selecting the new List you just created
  • You can choose any type of Automation as they’re all customizable, but I’d choose “Educate Subscribers”
  • Name your Automation whatever you like (ex: Your Course Name Drip Lessons)
  • *IMPORTANT* On the Configure Trigger page, you must check the box to “Trigger workflow…”
  • Next, add 1 email. As soon as you do this, you’ll see text above it that says “1 day… change delay” Click the “change delay” link to your desired drip time (if the second lesson is set to 7 days in Teachery, set this to 7 days).
  • Go ahead and design your email to your liking, it can be as simple as you like letting that person know the next module is ready for them with a link to that specific course lesson (get this link by previewing your course in Teachery and navigating to that lesson’s page).

Step 4: Repeat E & F from Step 3 until you have all your drip emails done with the right time delays based on your lessons.

Step 5: Once you’ve added all your emails, confirm the Automation sequence and “Start” it.

Step 6: Come back to Teachery and login. Click into your course. Then, while in the course editor, go to your Default Payment Page (or whichever payment page you’re going to use). Click the “Connect Email Provider” button at the top right and select MailChimp. Then select the list you’ve setup Automation for.

Step 7: Make sure your drip lessons in Teachery are set to the same days as you set in MailChimp.

Optional Step 8: We recommend setting this automation up days/weeks before releasing your course so you can signup for your course and see the automation emails happen real time (and check your course lessons to make sure they match).

NOTE: If you don't use MailChimp or ConvertKit...

Simply follow these similar instructions for whatever email provider you use to create your email sequence itself. Then, you will need to use our Zapier integration to zap student data into your email provider to start the email sequence.

**

Voila! Your course students will now get emails when new lessons are available to them in your course!
